Basic Information

Jambay Lhakhang festival tour takes place in the religious heartland of Bhutan which is in Bumthang. Specifically the festival is conducted in the month of November. The festival is unique with sacred dances and rituals performed by monks and laymen in different costumes. We also travel and visit Bhutan’s central valleys which are composed of rich ancient historical and Buddhist monasteries and temples.

Tour Details

Day 1 Paro

  • As you step out of the plane you can witness the beautiful landlocked terren of paro valley. Received in harmony by the team of Druk regal tours you will be escorted to the transport that you will be touring in.
  • Check in at hotel in Paro, leisure time at hotel to relax for a bit and after lunch visit Taa Dzong (watch tower), now converted into Bhutan’s national museum. Once it was used as a watch tower to protect the Rinpung Dzong and the Paro valley.
  • Then take a walk down to the Rinpung Dzong,the famous film “Little Buddha” starring Keanu reeves was shot in and around the Dzong, and then witness the Tsechu.
  • Then visit Dungtse Lhakang and the Drugyal Dzong. Note that currently the ruins of the Drugyal Dzong is being Glorified to its original structure of the past.

Day 2: Paro to Thimphu

  • After breakfast travel to thimphu the capital city of bhutan.the drive is of two hours as on the way we will Vist the Tacho Lhakang and the still existing iron bridge.
  • Stop at Chunzom the river confluence of Haa Dzongkhag and Paro Dzongkhag to take pictures of 3 different types of stupa Tibeten design, Bhutanese design and Nepal design Stupa.
  • As you reach to the city, one unique thing about the city that you can notice is that there are no traffic lights.
  • Check in hotel and after lunch visit Buddha point (kuensel phodrang) and get refreshed by the beautiful scenes of Thimphu City. Witness one of the tallest statues of Buddha Dordenma in the world which is 169ft.
  • Visit Memorial Chorten in the heart of the town. The stupa is a Tibetan style Chorten dedicated to the third king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, built on 1974.Then visit textile museum and folk heritage museum.
  • Visit Bhutan postal museum and craft bazar.
  • Leisure time in the town.
  • Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha

  • After breakfast, we begin our journey to Punakha. Stop at Dochula pass for sightseeing of the beautiful Himalayas and the magnificent 108 stupa, built in dedication to the fourth king Jigme Singey Wangchuck.
  • Take a short hike to Chimmi Lhakhang when reaching to lobesa. The temple is built during the 15th century by the divine mad man Drukpa Kunley.
  • Once reaching to Punakha, check into hotel and after lunch and visit Punakha Dzong (fortress of great happiness and bliss). Punakha district was the capital of the country 1995.
  • Then hike up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel stupa. A beautiful place to refresh your mind and take photos.
  • Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Punakha to Bumthang via Wangduephodrang

  • After early breakfast we head towards Bumthang, The religious heartland of the country.
  • The distance to Bumthang is about 198km and it will be around 7 to 8 hours’ drive.
  • Lunch will be on route and there will be places where you will be able to take amazing photographs.
  • On the way stop at Pele la pass and Chendebji stupa.
  • Overnight at hotel in Bumthang.

Day 5: Bumthang

  • After breakfast drive to Jambay lhakhang and attend the Jambay temple festival for the whole day.
  • Overnight at Bumthang.

Day 6: Bumthang

  • After breakfast attend Jambay lhakhang festival.
  • After lunch visit Kurji temple where exciting stories dwell around the area during the time of the great tantric master Guru Padmasambhava.
  • Then visit Tamshing temple and the beautiful Ken Cho Sum temple.
  • Overnight at hotel in Bumthang.

Day 7: Bumthang

  • After breakfast drive to the Jakar Dzong to witness the Jakar festival.
  • The fortress was built in 1646 AD by the 3rd Druk Desi Minjur Tenpa. The festival will be carried out in the courtyard within the Dzong.
  • Overnight at hotel in Bumthang.

Day 8: Bumthang to Trongsa

  • After breakfast attend last day of Jambay lhakhang festival.
  • After lunch travel to Trongsa and visit Trongsa Taa dzong(watch tower)
  • Overnight at hotel in Trongsa.

Day 9: Trongsa to Paro

  • After breakfast we travel a back to Paro.
  • Lunch will be on route.
  • overnight at hotel in Paro

Day 10: Paro

  • Visit to one of the hot spot destination, Paro Taktsang (Tiger Nest).
  • 800 meters and 5hrs hike till the Monastery including lunch and rest.
  • The hike is divided into three view stops:
  • Cafeteria view stop- take rest and have refreshments
  • Photo view stop – best stop to take photos of monastery
  • Final stop at monastery- get detailed explanations from guide

Note: Transportations like ponies will be available (individual has to bare their own cost)
