Basic Information

Punakha Festival tour takes place at Punakha in the very beautiful Punakha fortress. The sacred dances and rituals are performed by monks and laymen depicting the great history and tradition of the country. Visit many attractions including fortresses (Dzongs), markets and museums in the western parts of the country. In this tour we also take you to the peaceful Phobjikha Valley which is the winter home to the Black-Necked Crane accompanied by a visit to the Gangtey monastery discovering exciting stories that dwell in the locality.

Tour Details

Day 1: Paro

  • As you step out of the plane you can witness the beautiful landlocked terren of paro valley. Received in harmony by the team of Druk regal tours you will be escorted to the transport that you will be touring in.
  • Check in at hotel in Paro, leisure time at hotel to relax for a bit and after lunch visit Taa Dzong (watch tower), now converted into Bhutan’s national museum. Once it was used as a watch tower to protect the Rinpung Dzong and the Paro valley.
  • Then take a walk down to the Rinpung Dzong,the famous film “Little Buddha” starring Keanu reeves was shot in and around the Dzong, and then witness the Tsechu.
  • Then visit Dungtse Lhakang and the Drugyal Dzong. Note that currently the ruins of the Drugyal Dzong is being Glorified to its original structure of the past.

Day 2: Paro to Thimphu

  • After breakfast travel to thimphu the capital city of bhutan.the drive is of two hours as on the way we will Vist the Tacho Lhakang and the still existing iron bridge.
  • Stop at Chunzom the river confluence of Haa Dzongkhag and Paro Dzongkhag to take pictures of 3 different types of stupa Tibeten design, Bhutanese design and Nepal design Stupa.
  • As you reach to the city, one unique thing about the city that you can notice is that there are no traffic lights.
  • Check in hotel and after lunch visit Buddha point (kuensel phodrang) and get refreshed by the beautiful scenes of Thimphu City. Witness one of the tallest statues of Buddha Dordenma in the world which is 169ft.
  • Visit Memorial Chorten in the heart of the town. The stupa is a Tibetan style Chorten dedicated to the third king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, built on 1974.Then visit textile museum and folk heritage museum.
  • Visit Bhutan postal museum and craft bazar.
  • Leisure time in the town.
  • Overnight at hotel in Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu to Punakha

  • After breakfast, we begin our journey to Punakha. Stop at Dochula pass for sightseeing of the beautiful Himalayas and the magnificent 108 stupa, built in dedication to the fourth king Jigme Singey Wangchuck.
  • Take a short hike to Chimmi Lhakhang when reaching to lobesa. The temple is built during the 15th century by the divine mad man Drukpa Kunley.
  • Once reaching to Punakha check into hotel and after lunch and visit Punakha Dzong (fortress of great happiness and bliss). Punakha district was the capital of the country 1995.
  • Then hike up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyel stupa. A beautiful place to refresh your mind and take photos.
  • Overnight at hotel.

Day 4: Punakha

  • After breakfast we take an easy hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal stupa where the contents of the stupa include statues and paintings of Buddhist teachings.
  • The temple and its surrounding is very beautiful and peaceful where one can refresh there mind and take amazing pictures.
  • Then we travel back to the fortress and attend the Tsechu.
  • Overnight at hotel in Punakha.

Day 5: Punakha to Gangtey(Phobjikha)

  • After breakfast we drive to Phobjikha (4hrs) and visit the Gangtey monastery which is a Nyingmapa school of Buddhism.
  • The monastery was initially built in the 16th century and the architecture of the monastery richly and beautifully painted.
  • overnight at Phobjikha

Day 6: Gangtey (Phobjikha) to Paro

  • After breakfast take a refreshing walk through the Gangtey nature trail through the beautiful environment and some part of the Phobjikha valley.
  • Then we drive back to Paro.
  • Lunch on route and if time permits, leisure time in Paro town.
  • Overnight at hotel in Paro.

Day 7: Paro

  • Visit to one of the hot spot destination, Paro Taktsang (Tiger Nest).
  • 800 meters and 5hrs hike till the Monastery including lunch and rest.
  • The hike is divided into three view stops:
  • Cafeteria view stop- take rest and have refreshments
  • Photo view stop – best stop to take photos of monastery
  • Final stop at monastery- get detailed explanations from guide

Note: Transportations like ponies will be available (individual has to bare their own cost)
